Louisiana Flute Society
Thank you for visiting the Louisiana Flute Society website! The 2019 Louisiana Flute Festival focuses on something that every flutist does: PERFORM!
Our Guest Artist this year is Sharon Sparrow, Acting Principal Flutist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and author of the renowned book “Six Weeks to Finals.” Sharon will present her proven methodical approach to preparing for a successful performance, whether it is an orchestral audition or a solo recital. She will also teach a Solo Repertoire Master Class covering frequently asked repertoire on orchestral and undergraduate/graduate auditions, and conclude the day performing a solo recital with pianist Dianne Frazer.
Our experienced clinicians will present sessions on topics including Body Mapping, preparing for college auditions, performing standard orchestral excerpts, and how to present yourself as a professional aspiring musician. There will be an additional session during lunch with a nutritionist discussing how to prepare the body for a successful performance
New this year will be a Festival Flute Choir! This ensemble will rehearse during the day and perform a short program at the Closing Ceremony. It is open to anyone who attends the festival. Please pre-register on our registration form so that parts can be assigned in advance.
For younger flutists, there will be a Middle and High School Young Artist Competition in the morning. The winners of this competition will win both prize money and the opportunity to perform in a Competition Winners Master Class. Students also have the opportunity to perform and receive comments during our Critique Sessions. Please visit the Competitions page for more information.
For flutists looking to upgrade instruments or purchase music, Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company of Dallas and Flutistry of Boston will be exhibiting their merchandise.
I hope to see you all on April 27th at Tulane University, and I am certain that we all will benefit from the wealth of knowledge our Guest Artist Sharon Sparrow and Clinicians have to share!
